This extension expands links from many url shortening services.
This extension simply expands shortened urls found on web pages you visit. It does this automatically as you browse the internet. Previously this was called Chrome URL Expander.
Tactical URL Expander supports many URL shortening services. For a complete list please see http://http://longurl.org/. To report any issues please use the Support & FAQ link below or leave a comment.
This is done by using the API found at http://http://longurl.org/ and the JQuery library.
I am working on Version 2.0 which will have a upgraded user interface and have the option of using a context menu instead of inline replacement. I apologize for the delay, work has taken priority and I have not had much time to focus on this extension. I really want to finish my changes, it's just a matter of time.
Version 1.6 - Removed the enable/disable button as everyone seems to hate it. Switched the backend to longurl.org due to complaints about the plugin not working (too many requests to the previous service). Made some changes that will set me up to change this plugin completely. Did some cleanup of code (still needs work). Reduced the number of calls made by jquery. My current plans are to allow 3 modes.
1) Change the short url to the real url
2) Change the short url to the real page title
3) Allow you to right click a short url and see the long url.
With some luck I will be able to work on these changes soon. Once those changes are complete I will only update if something breaks due to a change in chrome. Hopefully nothing is broken.
Version 1.5.4 - Fixed a few memory leaks and modified the extension to support basically every single url shortener there is. (it no longer checks a list, but uses a very generic regex to decide what to try to expand). I also removed link cache support as it did nothing really useful and used up valuable memory.
Version 1.5.2 General code cleanup.
Version 1.5.1 fixes a typo.
Version 1.5 is new and improved. Switching the backend has improved the speed of the extension as well as the reliability. New in this version is the ability to use the expanded page's title for the link's text. You can control this in the options. Another new feature is that changes to the options page take effect without reloading the page you are on. Please report any issues.
Version 1.2.1 just fixes some minor issues.
Version 1.2 has improved enable/disable functionality. Disabling the expander will result in restoring the original shortened URLs. I have also implemented a caching system that will store the last 500 url's you have expanded to reduce network traffic. This is customizable in the options page.
Version 1.0 Now has a enable/disable function. Chrome URL Expander will now add a button in your toolbar that allows you to enable and disable the url expanding (but not the extension itself) at your leisure. Please report any bugs you may find with this new functionality.
Version 0.9.3 now works with dynamic updates. If the page updates dynamically, such as twitter.com, Chrome URL Expander will detect this and recheck the page for any links to expand.
You can control the number of characters displayed when the link is updated as well as control if you want to update the link text, the link target, or both. See screenshot for more details.
