Sokhan, smart screen reader for the visually impaired or blind, adds screen reading capability to the browser in 26 languages. Sokhan automatically detects the language on a website and adds screen reading in the native language.
Sokhan is mostly controller via mouse, but also reads out special fields like inputs, buttons and links on tab focus. The user has the option to choose between a male or female voice and can temporarily pause the screen reader.
The following languages are currently available: English, Dutch (Nederlands), Indonesian (Bahasa Indonesia), French (Français), Japanese (日本語), Indian (हिन्दी), German (Deutsch), Swedish (Svenska), Italian (Italiano), Arabic (العربية), Spanish (Español), Romanian (Română), Portuguese (Português), Thai (ไทย), Slovakian (Slovenčina), Hungarian (Magyar), Polish (Polski), Chinese (中文), Greek (Ελληνικά), Turkish (Türkçe), Danish (Dansk), Czech (Čeština), Finish (Suomi), Korean (한국어), Norwegian (Norsk) and Russian (Русский).
More languages will be added as they become available and the extension will be improved in later version. The following additions are planned next:
1) Allow user to determine fallback language, currently this is set to English.
2) Expand and improve vocalisation of user's own typing.
3) Continue to improve the smart reading of inaccessible or badly accessible websites.
4) Improve user experience.
5) Improve and change extension based on user feedback.
