Obtain and copy your IP address
A quick way to fetch your IP address. No B.S. or advertisements included.
Hotkeys: Don't like the icon? Neither do I. Hide it and use the hotkey functionality to copy your IP in the background. By default, the key combination is Ctrl+Shift+U (or Cmd+Shift+U on Mac). You can re-configure the hotkeys by visiting chrome://extensions and scrolling to the bottom of the page to find the "Keyboard shortcuts" link.
Options: You can configure and prioritize the servers which will report your IP. You can even input your own server! Hint: drop this into a php file on your own VPS: <?php echo $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR']; ?>
Bubble: When you click the QuickIP button, the copy button is automatically focused. Just tap the spacebar to copy the IP and make the bubble go away. Or hit escape to exit the bubble without copying.
Explanation of permissions: In order to obtain your IP, you must communicate with an external server; checkip.dyndns.org is a simple and reliable service for this. Others are available in options. Some extensions get around this permission warning by pulling a webpage through an iframe. This works, but you are still communicating with an external server, so there's no real advantage. Often, you don't even know the server with which you are communicating. This extension parses out the IP from a page and is transparent in doing so by warning you via permissions.
