Took me a bit to figure out exactly what this is doing. I'm not sure this is 100% correct. It sets the local network devices (or is it just loopback?) to LISTEN for TCP connections on port XXX. When a client (anything that talks TCP) connects to localhost port XXX, the connection is transferred through a proxy to a preconfigured (BUT unknown to the client) destination at HOSTNAME:PORT I believe the intent is to provide proxying service for applications that would not otherwise be able to ...
