Math lesson for 6th grade teaching algebraic expressions. Video instruction, worked examples, guided practice, and instructor notes.
NEW 3.0 version includes a new NOTES feature: helpful tips for students, self-explanation questions, further information, and even suggestions for extension or family involvement--for every question and example!
Guzinta Math: Algebraic Expressions focuses on writing expressions with variables to represent problem situations, models, and verbal expressions. Students also explore reasoning with algebraic expressions using an interactive tool called Variable Calculator. Students also investigate how to solve equations using another interactive tool which models numeric expressions and the Distributive Property of Multiplication over Addition.
For one-on-one or whole-class mathematics instruction, use this Guzinta Math lesson as a supplement for teaching about building and evaluating algebraic expressions--key concepts in 6th grade. The app includes detailed instructor notes for each guided practice problem, with notes about extending discussion around each worked example and problem.
Instructors and/or students can turn on and use the new canvas feature (with improved writing functionality) in the app to write all over the screen--take notes, highlight key terms and ideas, show work, etc.
The second and third modules include interactive models--the Variable Calculator and Distributive Property model--that are used to further support students' mastery of algebraic expression construction and interpretation.
