Automatically EZproxy sites to get papers. No searching around your library site. No clicking buttons. Automatic. EZ-R.
This extension makes it easier by automatically proxying your browsing for websites your library has a subscription to. I got tired of finding myself on a publisher's page and clicking on the PDF link only to be told to pay $35 for a paper for which my institution has already paid for access, and then trying to navigate the bizarrely slow library site to get access to the said paper. This extension is makes that a 0-click process.
Please note that this extension currently only supports Georgia Tech and Khalifa University. I'd like to include more institutions but need additional information for each one. See the FAQ below.
== Basic usage ==
1. Install the extension and select your institution in the options.
2. Navigate to a site you want to get a paper from as you normally would.
3. The extension will automagically detect that you are on a supported
site and redirect you to a proxied version of the page.
== Frequently asked questions (FAQ) ==
Q: Why do you need permission to see my tabs and browsing activity?
A: The extension needs to monitor the URLs your browser is navigating in order to automatically reroute appropriate requests through the proxy server. This information is never recorded or stored anywhere.
Q: Why isn't my institute in the list of libraries?
A: I don't have the necessary information. You could send it to me! The best way is to ask your library for the config.txt or ezproxy.cfg file from the EZproxy server and send it to me. Alternatively:
º A list of URLs your library has subscriptions to. This is the hardest bit. If you don't have this you can send me the other items and I may be able to obtains myself.
º Your library's EZproxy entry point (which can probably be found at the EZProxy URL Database - http://ezproxy-db.appspot.com/).
Q: It didn't automagically proxy my attempt to get a paper!!
A: Are you sure your university has access to it? If so, you can add the site to the list of sites in the extension's options. Please also shoot me an email so I can add it to the extension.
Q: It is trying to proxy a site, but the server says something like "EZproxy administrator must first authorize the hostname of this URL".
A: Oops. In the extension options you can remove that site from the list. Please also shoot me an email so I can remove it from the extension
Q: I've got a problem or suggestion!
A: No problem. Send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org and I'll try to help.
